When the meme folder starts getting too big, it’s time to make some subfolders for the ones that don’t come up so often. That doesn’t mean throwing them away, because you never know when the topic may come up. So in the process of sorting, which really should become an ongoing process, I pulled up some of these:
I mean, do they even make iPods any more? I remember once looking for a tiny MP3 Player that would take an SD card, and it was really hard to come by. Strangely enough, I’ve heard some noise about Cassettes coming back like Vinyl seems to have.
2009, it says, but it’s probably older than that.
I have never posted this one in the time since I saved it. Although it might be contemporary again with the new Fantastic Four movie coming out. It may pay to be a pack-rat, as long as the full-size G.I. Joes aren’t around.
I remember for a while there was a web site you could paste an image into and it would do this transformation.
Remember what I said about sites that add a banner to the bottom of memes? Old ICanHazCheezeburger memes get a pass if they’re old enough, since that was a sort of competitive meme-creation site.
It turned out I have an account there that still works. So I dug out the very oldest thing I did there. I still like it:
There were other template sites out there, like eeCards. I remember saving this one specifically to send it to Stephen Green, the VodkaPundit. Dunno if he ever saw it, or saw it hundreds of times:
Another card site. These things tended to live on corporate eMail servers and get shuttled back and forth.
Not a Meme, since it’s a signed editorial cartoon, but John Cox is a great editorial cartoonist. He used to team up with Alan Forkum, but now it’s Matt Margolis. Without the date on the bat, this could be used over and over....
I used to correspond with those guys all the time, and very occasionally I’d give them an idea, and you’d find “Mauser” as hidden text in the resulting cartoon. That was before I added the “Dr.”. But one of the best was from a friend of mine I introduced to them, about Al Gore, which John went back and redid as a painting.
(For those born too recently, the story that engendered this was a report that Mr. Global Warming there’s mansion used 37 times the energy of the average house in his area. Spiced with the 2000 elections recount mess.)
The site still exists with its archives. I should hit it, since I lost a lot of stuff when my old Mac hard drive went south. John’s rendition of Uncle Sam is one of my favorites.
2015, but you can see how a decade later it almost came up again.
I don’t begrudge the Japanese artist his signatures. He did the work, and this is simply brilliant.
I recently discovered that I had known the artist of the original picture for a while, although he goes by a pseudonym.
This is recent, but related:
I don’t know if the Demotivators site is still up.
Still, the previous Calvin meme is far superior to this. Talk about a Demotivator!
Let’s get back to something fun.
If you get this one, thank Tad Stones.
This one is a favorite of mine too.
Save this, it will come in handy:
The Male Feminist one is so much easier than taking the time to actually insult those guys.
Another real favorite.
And let me close this edition of pre-2020 memes with something cute:
Later!
regarding the man bun one - I created this version of it

Despair.com is still out there for all your demotivational needs. :)
